Tilly's Tea Room

Tilly’s Tea Room – 9/7/13

Set in a quaint village high street, we entered the initial area, being a traditional old sweet shop, leading to the tea room at the rear.
We were greeted and offered a table inside or in the garden. As it was a lovely sunny day, we chose the pleasant garden, which was furnished with A frame tables.
The owner (doubling as a waiter today due to staff shortages), apologised in advance for a slower than usual service. He was undoubtedly harassed; however he was always pleasant, courteous and solicitous.
In next to no time, we were provided with a cream tea – more rustic than refined but none the less, most enjoyable. Our personal preference is for a traditional sultana scone as opposed to the addition of cherries on this occasion.
Had the weather been typically British, our experience of eating indoors would have been a little oppressive – only one small window covered by shrubbery was expected to illuminate a room with 4 tables.
A spacious utilitarian bathroom was located next to the seating area. It was clean but served as a storage area for cleaning equipment too. We have a preference for disposable paper towels rather than the cotton hand provided.
Tilly’s provided a reasonably priced and tasty treat.

Signs for business or home

I have recently come across a company who can make signs for business or home, in all different sizes, colours, fonts and using different materials.

I have been searching for a while and having found Signomatic, I'd love to share their extremely user-friendly website http://www.signomatic.co.uk/signs/name-badge-signs

Marygreen Manor

Marygreen Manor – 4/5/13

We were greeted at reception by a smartly dressed man. We hadn’t booked for afternoon tea and unfortunately there were no tables available. However, a waiter nearby suggested we could sit anywhere and have cream tea, cakes, snacks etc.
We chose a comfortable 2 seater sofa with table in front and perused the rather extensive menu. Scones with jam and lashings of clotted cream is what we craved and that’s what we ordered from a very pleasant, well-mannered, professional young man.
The food and drinks (a pot of tea and a luxury hot chocolate) were nicely presented. The plain scones were warm and delicious and slightly nicer than the fruit ones, but it was a close call.
As I said, we craved lashing of clotted cream and although the potion size was ample for the average person, we needed more; and more we received at no extra change!!
Another waiter rushed around, being rather loud and distracting. Thankfully, this less than professional behaviour was not commonly observed.
A visit to the little girls room was in order. The room was well appointed with adequate facilities, pleasantly fragranced soap and hand cream. Upon return, I thrust my hands under Maggie’s nose – “smell this”. Maggie with her nose for smells and eye for detail, went to inspect the facilities for herself.
We were ready to leave. Before doing so, we felt we had to praise the young man who had served us – he remarked that we had “made his day”. We were thanked for visiting and bid a good day.
A most enjoyable afternoon with scrumptious food, very reasonably priced.
